The Inside Scoop on Columbia & Binghamton from Pow-Pow

Hey Big Red readers!

Hot off the press: Cornell Lady Bears take down the Binghamton Bearcats in another mid-week victory. (We’re writing to you from the bus ride home, eating to-go Panera. But we aren’t complaining!)

The Big Red started the game with intensity, scoring 8 unanswered goals.  Being moved ahead a day early due to an imminent storm, the 45-degree “beach-esque” weather only helped secure the Cornell win.  Maybe it was the bare, spandex-less legs, but the Big Red looked sharp and fast, outrunning and outscoring our opponent 15-4. This considerable lead also meant a lot of players got to get some playing time, which was awesome.

We also had a great Ivy League victory on Saturday against Columbia. Shout out to Liv Mattyasovszky and Kailey O’Hagan for their first collegiate goals!  What really got us pumped up was the Cornell Men’s game right before ours. CU Men’s lax beat #2 ranked Virginia in a game that made us all remember why lacrosse is so fun. Four thousand students and fans watched as Cornell came back from trailing UVA to take over and dominate the game.

As freshmen, it’s really thrilling experiencing the excitement of being in season; traveling overnight with your teammates, team dinners, PGPs, and prepping for big games are all new to us.  There’s nothing quite like seeing your teammate make a caused turnover or hearing cheers from the rowdy sideline, and we’re fortunate to be a part of it all!  Just look at how happy we were at our post-game Panera-fest (including Liv with her super stealth photo-bomb):

Although we definitely have cause to celebrate, we need to look ahead to our game on Sunday against UAlbany. Coming off of two victories, the Great Danes should definitely be shaking in their boots.  Although the forecast shows bad weather heading our way, we say BRING IT ON! (We know we’ve been selfish with the past two days of sunshine.) #ourweather #LGR

Until next time,
